HAMBURG SÜD baptizes “POLAR MEXICO” in the New Port.

Last Saturday, April 27, Hamburg Süd baptized the container vessel “Polar Mexico” in the port of  Veracruz.  The vessel’s Godmother was Mrs. Claudia Dávila, wife of Carlos Ayala, Director of  Logistics and Distribution Alpek Polyester, A subsidiary of Group Alfa, one of the biggest Mexican corporates in the country.

Hamburg Süd has been actively operating in Mexico for aproximately 50 years and today , is one of the three main shipping lines in the mexican market. One of the most important services in for the region are the North of Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean (EMCS) which connects Altamira, Veracruz, and Progresso with Ports in the Caribbean, Ireland, Great Britain, Antwerp and Bremerhaven. The “Polar Mexico” will be part of this service; other Hamburg Süd services also call at the Mexican ports of Manzanillo and Lázaro Cárdenas.

This vessel is part of a group of 4 with identical structures, the “Polar” class-fleet was built for Hamburg Süd in the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding.  They have a maximum length of 230 m and a beam of 37,30 m;  The vessel has the capacity to transport up to 3,800 TEUS. Due to its size, design and high number of intakes for refrigerated units (1,000), the “Polar Mexico” is manufactured to transport refrigerated cargo
